Struck by order of Congress, only three were made and these were presented to the militiamen who captured Major Andre of the British Army who was negotiating with the traitor Benedict Arnold for the surrender of the fort at West Point. With this fascinating medal we include a brochure giving its history and the letters from General Washington and the Resolve of Congress authorizing the presentation. The medal measures 2-5/8" x 1-5/8" and is heavily cast in pewter.
