Epaulets,
Non-Commissioned Officer: These are hand sewn from worsted and tassel and are very attractive
and correct items. The use of red and green epaulets by American non-commissioned officers
was discontinued about March of 1779 and thereafter all infantry sergeants and corporals
were to wear white worsted epaulets. All artillery sergeants, corporals, gunners and
bombardiers were to wear these in yellow. Sergeants wore epaulets on both shoulders and
corporals wore only one on the right shoulder.
