Gown, Petticoat, Cap and Fichu,
shown worn over side-hoops.

Mrs. Washington's Gown: Godwin's is pleased to offer a late-18th century gown ensemble, styled after the outfit worn by Martha Washington portrayed in a family portrait from the year 1796. This lovely outfit is a classic late-period American style, ideal for portraying our first First Lady. It is a stylish, late 18th century two-piece ensemble, consisting of overgown and petticoat.

The Gown has a pointed front and back waistline and full skirt. The Dress Bodice has a low, round neckline edged with self-fabric ruching. Sleeves are elbow-length and have a small self-fabric ruffle at the wrist edge. The Gown fastens with a laced placket in the center front. The gown skirt opens in front and is trimmed with self-fabric ruching along the front edges. The matching Petticoat has a ruffles of self-fabric trim along the hemline.
The Ensemble is offered in solid-color fabrics only: medium-weight cotton for an informal day wear (washable), or, like the original in the portait, a solid-color satin (dry clean).
Please state 1st, 2nd & 3rd color choices (The original gown in the portrait is silvery white satin).

NOTE:Solid colors only are available -- Outfit is shown with contrasting petticoat for illustrative purposes only.

Mrs. Washington's Accessories
MARTHA'S CAP:
Most people think of Martha Washington with a giant mob cap on--she seems to have favored that style and is portrayed in one in most of her portraits (tho it wasn't called a mob cap in the 18th century; it was actually known as a Corday Cap). Our version is a Low crowned cap - a puffed crown and matching ruffle edging adorns the cap, with colored ribbon around the gathered crown.
Price: $40.00

MARTHA'S FICHU:
The fichu/neckerchief was a favorite fashion accessory, and Mrs. Washington is seen wearing this item in many portraits. Our "Martha" version is an oversized kerchief, done in a lightweight, plain white fabric, which can be worn over the shoulders or inside the neckline of the gown.
Price: $40.00
