These reproduction 9 pounder grape shot are entirely hand made in the USA. They have a hand-sewn cotton canvas bag filled with nine 1.7" cast balls in three rows of three that sit atop a wooden disc and spool and wrapped in natural twine to give the appropriate "quilted" look for naval shot. The grape shot balls are made from the same shatter-resistant epoxy plaster as our cannon balls. Each stands 6.5" high, has a diameter of 3.9" and weighs 1 pound 12 ounces (1.75 lbs.) Great for exhibits, displays, film props, etc.

Vent Prick or Priming Wire [#125P] Vent Prick or Priming Wire [#125P] 
The vent prick or priming wire was used by artillerymen to pierce the cannon's powder charge so as to expose the cannon powder to the priming which was then placed into the vent. These are nicely made from 1/8" brass wire, are about 9" long and fit into the sheaths made for them in our Artillery Cartridge Box.

Artillerist's Hammer [#311] Artillerist's Hammer [#311] 
Our artillerist's hammer os hand-made of solid brass. It was used to "spike" a cannon by driving a nail or piece of steel into the touch-hole, rendering a cannon useless, at least temporarily, when capture seemed imminent and the cannon would have to be abandoned. The overall length is 7" and the head measures 2 1/8" x 5/8".

18th Century Hand Grenade [#246G] 18th Century Hand Grenade [#246G] 
These type of hand grenades were used by infantry (grenadiers), mortar crews and naval forces throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. Original specimens were made from a variety of materials including iron, glass, paper mache and even clay. Our INERT grenades are 2.5" in diameter and made from composit materials. And like the originals they're fitted with a wooden plug and a twisted double fuse, but they're filled with sand to provide heft while giving the appearance that they're filled with powder.
